History of ELO

We focus on customer proximity, quality and reliability to develop software solutions for our customers. The basis of this is the consistent practice of our company philosophy.
Innovation based on tradition
The roots of ELO Digital Office GmbH lie in a traditional German company, the Louis Leitz group. The name Leitz is associated with high quality solutions for the office. Leitz recognized the increasing shift towards electronic documents at an early stage, in the mid-1990s.
- 1996 Founding of a new business area, “electronic filing and archiving”, within the Louis Leitz group. The ELO (Elektronischer Leitz Ordner) brand is created. This was the birth of ELOoffice. The first target group is SMEs.
- Beginning of 1998 The positive response from the ELO market prompted the Louis Leitz Group to establish the subsidiary Louis Leitz Digital Office GmbH.
- August 1998 ELO Digital Office GmbH demerged to form an independent company due to the takeover of Leitz by the Swedish Esselte AB. The market remained positive, ELO continued to grow.
- 1998 Introduction of ELOprofessional. The strong demand and increasing requirements from customers finally led to a product catering to the needs of larger customers and expectations, alongside an entry-level version ELOprofessional was the first product available with an SQL database and a client/server architecture.
- 2004 Introduction of ELOenterprise. The aim is entry into a heterogeneous environment beyond the windows-based environment. ELOenterprise constitutes a platform-independent and multi-client enabled version.
With the overall ELO product range, ELO now covers three complete market segments. ELOoffice is used by small companies, ELOprofessional by medium-sized companies, and ELOenterprise by large companies.
